Heritage brands Sunspel and Cheaney launch footwear collab

Sunspel, the upscale heritage apparel brand specialising in wardrobe essentials, has collaborated with a fellow heritage British brand — shoemaker Cheaney — to recreate a classic Derby and a loafer footwear style for its summer collection.

Sharing nearly 300 years of history, the collab “reworks the classic styles to be as soft and comfortable as possible”.

The styles are made from super-supple suede, “specially selected for its soft feel”, while both are unstructured and unlined for added comfort. They’re also claimed to be sturdy and durable, thanks to the Goodyear welt construction, which also makes them easy to re-sole.

Both styles are handmade in Cheaney’s Northampton factory — less than 50 miles from Sunspel’s factory in Long Eaton — where it takes around eight weeks and 200 hand or hand tooled operations to make a single pair of shoes.

Cheaney’s Design Manager David Benbow said: “We actively promote the collaboration of strong British-made brands and we have always admired Sunspel. The fuse between quality and heritage is unquestionable in this partnership.”

The Sunspel x Cheaney collaboration styles are now available in selected stores and on Sunspot’s webstore.
